Excellent for a P-42 April 29, 2014
Reviewer: Varad Kalia from Bangalore, India
Delivery - Slight delay in order processing, MTS is not as fast as the Amazons of the world, but an acceptable hiccup. Great packaging for delivery, reached in excellent condition. 10/10 on that.

Ease of installation - I did not have to solder the connectors of the decoder and simply clipping the small plastic piece (default attachment in the loco) back in place. The required amount of Kapton tape comes with the decoder. Worked flawlessly.

Default address is of course - 03

No sweat install in my two Kato P-42 Genesis Amtrak locos.  Smooth, realistic operation.

High Quality Product July 10, 2013
Reviewer: Richard Salcer from Brooklyn, NY United States
This decoder is reliable and very easy to install, I have used a lot of them. Sometimes it is necessary to solder the loco's motor clips to the contact pads on the decoder because the gray plastic clip used to hold them in place doesn't exert enough pressure for a good contact. If you are not experienced in soldering, a workaround is to tightly fasten strips of amber-colored Kapton tape across the decoder at the front, middle and rear to keep it pressed against the frame. You can buy a roll of Kapton tape from Train Control Systems. One roll has enough tape to last a lifetime.

Too hard to install April 4, 2013
Reviewer: Trainmaster909 from United States of America
I found that it was much too difficult to install unless you are an extremely experienced modeler and have small hands.  You will need to buy a roll of Kapton tape with it.  Being only 14 years old with small hands and a lot of experience, I was struggling.  Make sure you read the instructions carefully too!

Digitrax DN163K0A N Scale DCC Plug-N-Play November 12, 2012
Reviewer: M&M
I am new to model railroading and DCC.  My only complaint is that this product may not be as easy to install as Plug-N-Play.  After installing the decoder, the engine wouldn't run.  I contacted Digitrax and they got back to me very quickly but it turns out I need to add solder to the motor contacts to make the connection with the decoder.  This is probably no problem for an experienced modeler and it gives me the opportunity to learn to solder but I think it should be noted somewhere in the description and instructions.  Maybe Digitrax could place a small riser on the circuit board at the contact points for the motor contacts, which may make the connections easier without soldering?
