I have only recently purchased my tester and have not yet used it but it certainly looks robust and definitely has all the features I will need. A big thanks to Model Train Stuff for good value and great service.

Basically a locomotive without wheels

I bought this unit to re-program several very old MRC decoders used only with MRC’s Command 2K unit. With the ESU unit I was able to test new & old decoders using both the MRC and Digitrax Zephyr Xtra and was able to change the old MRC decoders to 24/128 steps to work with the Digitrax Zephyr.
The unit has lights (LEDs), motor, and a speaker, with several types of decoder connectors. I only tested the 8-pin socket and bare wire connections and they worked exactly as predicted, with motor and lights working perfectly. I did not test the sound features because I had no sound decoders available for testing - I have no doubt they will work well also.
One of the spring-loaded push-in wire connections does not “bounce back” anymore, but I think I may have accidentally pushed it too hard - the electrical connection in it is still fine.
Overall it’s a fine product that does exactly what it is supposed to do, but it is mechanically delicate – don’t use it as a Frisbee :-)
