Steam engines need water and having one of these at strategic locations with the tank nearby, precludes having the tank at the track if space does not allow it. These are high quality castings and once you primer paint them I would use grimy black with a light (dry brushed) haze of brown on the upper surfaces.

Paint grimy black and fasten to an area in the yard by the tracks and you have a realistic piece of loco equipment.
