Tangent Scale Models HO 10811-22 Union Pacific (Original H-100-16) Bethlehem Steel Design 3600 cubic foot quad covered hopper car already assembled is based on the ones built in 1977.

The Bethlehem steel design 3600 cubic foot 4-bay covered hopper represent's Union Pacific's largest fleet of coal hoppers in company history. First produced in 1974 by Bethlehem Steel as Union Pacific class H-100-10, production of a majority of the fleet occurred in Union Pacific's Albina Shops in Portland, Oregon between 1976 and 1981. Production of this important fleet ended with the H-100-23 class, after Union Pacific placed more than 6,900 of these "quad" hoppers in service in the rapidly growing Western low sulfur coal market. These cars became the workhorses of the Union Pacific coal fleet, serving coal origination in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and the Powder River Basin, and sometimes on non-Union Pacific coal originations such as DRGW, Utah, and Wyoming and Colorado (former UP branchline). The DRGW origins became part of Union Pacific in 1996, and to this day these mines continue to load these UP quad hoppers.

Union Pacific's quad hopper wandered both system wide and to offline railroad as customers sourced coal from a variety of origins. A sample destination to the west that received coal in these hoppers were Southern California's Kaiser Steel located in Fontana, California, as well as the bulk export terminal at San Pedro. Trains of quad hoppers for these customers operated over Cajon Pass with various motive power groupings, most notably mixed DRGW and UP power (plus helpers). A few sample eastern gateways in early years were the Commonwealth Edison Company power plants at Waukegan, Illinois and Hammond, Indiana, Kansas City Powers and Light at Kansas City, Missouri, Illinois Central destinations for TVA in Kentucky, not to mention Eastern and Midwestern carriers both carload (sourced for cement and other production purposes) and unit train services. These quad hopper continue to serve, operating to customers without dedicated bank owned coal sets, as well as services literally anywhere when customers in North America want to increase coal deliveries from Union Pacific Sources. Finally, the quad hopper have been spotted in non-coal services such as miscellaneous aggregates, coke, and sugar beet services.
Tangent Scale Models HO scale already assembled Bethlehem Steel Design 3600 cubic foot quad covered hopper features highly accurate lettering, excellent slope sheet and hopper bay details, wire scale grab irons, see through brake platforms, and detail to simulate the rotary end mechanism found on the prototype. This also has coupler lift bars accompany Kadee scale couplers and sufficient hidden weights to ensure the replica operates as good as it looks, including a prototypical coal load to simulate machine loadings, and highly accurate "true to life" colors.
