There were many daring exploits conducted during the American Civil War, some of which involved incursions far behind the enemy lines.  Many myths have grown up around this daring raid, which has been treated in print and two movies.  The General & The Texas treats the raid pictorially and supplies a wealth of material to reconstruct the affair.
Features
  • The Andrews Raid, or as it is more commonly known, “The Great Locomotive Chase,” involved a small raiding party of 22 troopers from several Ohio regiments, and two civilians, including James J. Andrews, the leader. It was a very risky venture designed to disrupt rail traffic between two important Southern supply cities, Chattanooga and Atlanta. Isolating these cities would give the Federal Army a chance to strike deep into the heart of the Confederacy.
