Description   In the years following the Civil War, the wild west offered hope to a recovering nation. The Comstock Lode promised much-needed wealth to help fund the reconstruction of the Union, but a railroad was needed to carry passengers and freight from remote silver mines to the boomtowns that sprang up around them.
