The problem is with the power unit, sold in a separate 4-car set. A 4-car add-on set goes with the power-unit set, making an initial 8-car train. I bought all. When I added the 8-car set to run the train as a 16-car consist, as it runs in Japan, the power unit broke down. A two-inch plastic drive shaft that connects the drive trucks to the motor broke into two where the shaft enters a sleeve at the trucks. This particular Shinkensan is a Kato Japan product, and Kato USA does not respect a warranty for it. Kato USA say a request to Japan has been made for a replacement part, but I haven't heard from Kato in more than a month. I'm unsure whether a replacement part is available or whether Kato plans to respect a warranty on its product. Cost might be on me. This is wrong. Bottom line: Be aware of what you buy from Kato.
