Description

These 89� tri-level open auto racks are painted Santa Fe red with white Santa Fe �Circle/Cross� & �Auto-Veyer� placard on left, �Super Shock Control� in yellow and white on right placard and white lettering. They run on black Barber� roller bearing trucks. AT&SF tried using the term �auto-veyer� for their auto racks, but the term never caught on. These cars also proudly declare their Shock Control equipment for providing a smoother ride for their cargo. These tri-levels were used for autos, while the bi-level auto racks were typically used for transporting trucks and larger cars. Open rack cars such as these gradually became extinct due to the problems with damage and vandalism while in transit. However, they were greatly responsible for securing a vast amount of the automobile delivery traffic that had been previously lost during the box car era.
