So close, but still the same issues

Posted by Pedro Ramirez on Jun 29th 2018

The capacitor is a round can, and the wires are just a few mm too short. So, you can't put the capacitor in the back, you have to find a way to either mill the frame or body. Yet, there's plenty of room in the back end for a rectangular tantalum capacitor! The sound is lacking because of the speaker. Just a small amount of oval offset would give it a nice volume. Finally, the rear led is an old school bulb led, sheez. It seems silly that you remove a stock light board with surface mount led and replace it with a bulky led that you have to sand or bend in order to get it to fit. Digitrax - you could so easily do better! On the other hand, the speed control and DCC functions are great.

    Digitrax sound is no good

Posted by Clint Mayberry on Jun 29th 2018

Hi the Digitrax sound is really easy to install however I'm very disappointed in the sound volume, it is so quite its not usable, I reset all the CV settings to optimise the sound, I even run train with body off it and speeker pointing up so it had no interference and both units I purchased I extremely disappointing. you have to have no other noises around to hear the ever so faint sound with your head basically chasing the train around to hear it. I would expect some kind of support to fix this or refund. regards Clint

    Turn up the volume

I took a chance with this because I wanted to add sound to one of my super reliable Kato locos. I have a single SD-40 that I don't consist with anything so I got this sound decoder mostly because it was a plug-in. Like the other reviews I expected better. The prime-mover sound is so low the it almost sounds like an engine without a soundboard. The bell and horn are fine oddly enough. Pretty disappointed in this product.
