Among the most important and well-known Prussian freight train tender locomotives are the five couplers of the genre T16 and T16.1, over 1,500 units of which were built between 1905 and 1924. These powerful and reliable machines proved themselves in front of freight trains, in heavy shunting, and made a steep-bore locomotives "career". They were found throughout Germany and remained in regular service until the 1970s. The Deutsche Reichsbahn took over the locomotives as series 942-4 and 945-17 in their inventory.
