Posted by Charles Allen on Sep 3rd 2018

given every thing else I order(ed) is Z and I asked to be told of incompatibility, this one didn't make me happy...and as it's electrical, I'm stuck with it

Good transformer everything works well however the buttons on the control unit have a "sloppy" feel but work good.

    Safe packaging, quick shipment

I haven't used the transformers I ordered (these are gifts) but I can say that they arrived quickly, were priced right, and were packaged safely. Highly recommended.

Works great with our old Lionel Trains

Posted by SEW on Jun 29th 2018

I highly recommend the 100 Watt Z1000 Transformer by MTH Electric Trains for use with 1950s vintage Lionel trains. Our 63-year-old Lionel 1033 90-Watt Transformer’s reverse and whistle controls were not working dependably so I replaced it with the MTH Z1000. It works very well with our 1950 Lionel 2026 Prairie steam locomotive and Lionel 6466WX Whistling tender pulling 7 cars (one a caboose) over 32 feet of mostly 1950s vintage track with two old manual switches and two new powered switches. It will also simultaneously power the Lionel Prairie mentioned above and our Lionel Scout 6110 with each locomotive pulling its tender and four cars each. I use our old Lionel transformers to power lights and other accessories even though the Z1000 provides an 80 Watt 14 V power source for this purpose. The whistle button works perfectly with the 6466WX Whistling tender and the reverse button works very well with the 2026 Prairie steam locomotive.

    Works Lionel Railsounds Perfectly

Posted by Chuck on Jun 29th 2018

I run American Flyer, both the newer Lionel production as well as items from the 50's. I recently added one of the new AF Railsounds boxcars to run behind my vintage steamers to give them whistle and bell sounds. I was using my older 50's transformers with the addition of the Sound Activation Buttons which Lionel makes to operate the whistle and bell. They work OK but they slow the engine down a significant amount because they draw power to operate which I found was very distracting. I purchased the MTH Z1000 as it has 100 watts of power and the bell, whistle and direction buttons built into the unit. As an additional feature, it also has a seperate 14vac output to power an accessories. After following the well written instruction, I had it installed in a matter of minutes. I worked perfectly and now when the whistle or bell is activated the speed of the train remains constant. Highly recommended!
