On the cover: The east fork of the Basker Sub can be a busy place, as it is today. This used to be the "main line" for many years, until they built that new trestle over the Basker River, down-mountain about 6-miles. Most all the through trains take that new track these days, as it cuts off a number of miles of travel. Unless, of course, if there is some maintenance that restricts traffic flow. And that is the exact situation that's happening on this fine, early fall day in 1954. Can you imagine the delight of the passengers when they realize they are enjoying a very special bit of seldom used trackage. Boy, I wish I had been on that trip! By Dennis Murphy.
