Description

The Rapido Trains HO Scale EMD FT A-B Set is based on diesels which weretruly game changers in terms of locomotives. They could well be consideredthe first successful diesel road locomotive, and initial success with FTsconvinced many steam-era railroads to start retiring steam and dieselizetheir fleets. The FT introduced EMD's iconic bulldog nose to the world, adesign that would carry over onto thousands of E- and F-series locomotives,as well as others worldwide. Although demonstrators were built in 1939, thefirst FTs for a customer were built for Santa Fe at the end of 1940 andearly 1941. Additional units were delivered to US railroads across thecountry until production ended in 1945. During its production life 555 FTA-units were built along with 541 FT B-units, with many lasting in serviceinto the 1960s. Equipped with EMD s 567 prime mover, each single unit wasrated at 1,350 horsepower. Most ran as semi-permanently coupled 2,700horsepower A+B sets, but some roads (like the Santa Fe) had couplersinstalled on both ends of all units for maximum flexibility. Like manylocomotives, the FT fleet underwent numerous modifications and rebuildsduring its service life. Many road-specific changes would appear, includingchanges to number boards, pilots, cooling systems The Rapido model featuresprototypically accurate details with correct class detailing,roadname-specific detailing, roadname-specific body style, etched-metalgrilles and details, full multi-colored cab interior, directionalheadlights and working ditch and coupler or drawbar couplers between A andB units. Both A and B units are powered. The smooth-running drive featuresa five-pole motor with dual flywheels, backed up with the MoPower capacitorsystem for uninterrupted operation. This sound-equipped EMD FT A-B set isequipped with a full-featured ESU LokSound and DCC decoder fro realisticsound and control. To place a preorder, simply look for items marked with "PREORDER" in their title on our website. Add the item to your cart and proceed to checkout. You'll be required to pay a 10% non-refundable deposit to secure your reservation.

When will I be charged for my preorder?

You'll be charged a 10% deposit at the time of placing your preorder. The remaining balance, along with any applicable sales tax and shipping charges, will be due when the item is ready to be shipped. We'll notify you via email with a link to complete your payment.

Can I cancel my preorder?

Preorders can be canceled, but please note that the 10% deposit is non-refundable and will not be credited to store credit, as it goes toward covering the cost of the uncollected reservation.
