    So Easy, just do it

I resisted DCC for a long time, but a new house and a new layout design provided an opportunity to add a separate mainline for DCC operation. After come research and comparison, I went with this NCE unit. It was very easy to install and set up. I had a Bachmann GP-30 with sound programmed and running in about 15 minutes.

    PowerCab

Posted by Bill Sullivan on Jan 17th 2019

I purchased a PowerCab to replace a 7-year-old MRC Prodigy system on my small switching layout. The PowerCab is very easy to setup and use. I liked the botton layout on my MRC Prodigy system, but after only a week, I prefer the control layout on the PowerCab. The manual and NCE's extensive online info also are super helpful. Moreover, my locos equipped with TCS WowSound decoders consistently had trouble reading function inputs from my old MRC system. I have no such problem with the PowerCab on the same layout! Control of my WowSound-equipped locos is now much more reliable and consistent.

The only drawback of the PowerCab is the fixed 7-foot cord length. Because the handheld unit is both the throttle and the booster, you cannot unplug the unit and move around your layout like you can with MRC's Prodigy systems. This is not a problem for my 12-foot-long shelf layout, but it would make operating trains on both sides of a 4x8 layout nearly impossible. This is the reason I did not give the PowerCab a 5-star rating.

A quick way to get into DCC

Posted by Barry Smith on Jan 7th 2019

In 5 or 10 minutes one can have a DCC sound equipped locomotive running on your layout. Great for people like me who has run DC for years to start to explore DCC.

Connecting to Bachmann EZ Track very difficult with shaky 75 year old hands.

NCE 524025 Power Cab DCC system

Posted by Doc Bug on Oct 23rd 2018

Terrific and relatively inexpensive way to get started with DCC. I sometimes operate by myself and this system provides everything needed to get going with DCC. And -- it can be upgraded if more power is desired.

    Excellent intro to DCC

Posted by Randy on Oct 2nd 2018

The NCE PowerCab is a great way to get started in DCC. It is a fully featured system, with none of the good stuff left out, yet it is extremely easy to use. It literally took me 5 minutes to open the box and hook two wires from a piece of test track and plug it all together. Granted, I am not a DCC novice, but this is the first time I ever touched an NCE system. It really is that easy. And unlike many 'beginner' systems, you do not give up features for the sake of 'simplifying' it all, nor do you give up on any future expansion as your layout grows. Nothing you buy in this package is wasted if your dream empire is realized and you need a lot more power to run all those trains. Definitely worth the cost, and as always, great service from ModelTrainStuff.com.
